Good will, a key concept in ethics, has been compared in Kantian and Islamic systems. Kant considers it based on pure intention and rationality, whose goodness is independent of the consequences of the action. Islamic ethics in the Quran and Nahj al-Balagha emphasize intention for the sake of God and consider only these actions valuable. Imam Ali (peace be upon him) highlighted the role of pure intention in determining the value of actions. This study, using a descriptive-analytical method, has investigated the position of intention in Kantian and Islamic ethics. The findings indicate that Kant considers reason as the origin of morality, while Islam considers God as its origin. The Islamic perspective is more comprehensive because, in addition to internal motivation, it considers the connection with divine worship, otherworldly rewards, and the glorification of God. Kant deems divine assistance necessary for acquiring a good will and posits internal human transformation as a condition, whereas Islam achieves pure intention through faith and interaction with God. These differences reveal the ethical foundations, the role of intention, and value assessment. Islamic ethics, by considering spiritual dimensions, offers a broader perspective and emphasizes the accompaniment of intention with external actions, while Kant focuses more on internal motivation. These differences highlight Kant's single-axis approach versus the multi-dimensional nature of Islamic ethics.
