As silence may be known to be a kind of relative absence and cause some happenings to be commented, silences are of denotation and as a part of language intend to affect the addressees by not expressing information or deleting it. Imam Ali`s letters, in addition to their guiding nature, may be regarded as those texts capable of study by the newest teachings in linguistics. In the paper, Imam Ali`s letter to Mu`awiyah, with an emphasis on legality of Alawi caliphate and opposing the opposite discourse, is reread on the basis of the theory of discourse silence. In the study, the theory of  silence discourse has been focused on in two primary pivots in structural and semantic levels and, then, going beyond the text and relying on lingual texture, context and situation texture seeks to analyze the denotations of applicability of the discourse. As described in the paper, occurring some cases of structural, semantic and applied levels of silence in the letter show the effect of speaking in brief, convergence, imagination, attracting the addressees` mind and rebuking. سکوت یا غیاب معنادار عناصر زبانی در نوشتار دارای کارکردهای مختلف و در تحلیل گفتمان، موضوعی حائز اهمیت است و به‌مثابه صورتی دلالت‌مند، کامل‌کننده گفتار و قادر به بیان اندیشه‌ها است. از این منظر که سکوت می‌تواند به‌نو‌عی، غیابی نسبی باشد و برخی رخدادها از خلال آن تفسیر می‌شوند، سکوت‌ها دلالت‌مند است و به‌عنوان بخشی از زبان، قصد تاثیر بر مخاطب به‌واسطه نگفتن پاره‌ای از اطلاعات و یا حذف اطلاعات را دارد. از آنجا که متن مکاتبه‌های امرمومنان×، در کنار عنصر هدایت‌بخشی، قابلیت سنجش از زاویه جدیدترین دیدگاه‌های زبانی را داراست، در این پژوهش، نامه امام علی× به معاویه، با موضوع تاکید بر مشروعیت خلافت علوی و مقابله با گفتمان مخالف، بر اساس نظریه «سکوت گفتمانی» بازخوانی می‌شود. این پژوهش گفتمان سکوت را در دو محور ابتدایی در دو سطح ساختاری و معنایی مورد نظر قرار می‌دهد و سپس با فرارفتن از متن و بر اساس بافت زبانی و سیاق و بافت موقعیتی، به تحلیل دلالت‌های سطح کاربردشناختی گفتمان می‌پردازد. نتیجه پژوهش نشان می‌دهد که وجود نمونه‌هایی از سطوح سکوت ساختاری، معنایی و کاربردشناختی در این نامه، کارکرد ایجازگویی، هم‌گرایی، تصویرسازی، فعال‌سازی ادراک مخاطب و عتاب‌گویی را به‌دنبال دارد. https://www.nahjmagz.ir/article_59623_c1f3afd8eb0adb10411b2506d5b25412.pdf
