Qualitative Assessment of English and Persian Translations of the Ten Wisdoms of Nahj al-Balagha Based on the House Model

Abstract
The present study, with the aim of comparative analysis of three Persian and English translations of the Ten Wisdoms of Nahj al-Balagha, has used Julian House's translation quality assessment model. In this study, Shahidi's and Dashti's translations and the English translation of Peak of Eloquence by Elmhurst Publishing were examined based on the six main components of this model, including translation type, semantic, pragmatic, textual analysis, contextual analysis, and role balance assessment. The findings showed that the translations were mostly in the form of hidden translation and that in cases where the translations simultaneously paid attention to the transmission of precise meaning, functional role, and cultural-linguistic balance, they were of higher quality. In addition, detailed documentation was carried out for each wisdom based on House's analytical indicators, and the strengths and weaknesses of each translation were reported in a comparative manner.This research shows that applying a systematic approach can elevate the analysis of religious and literary translations from the level of general judgments to more precise levels of the quality of language and cultural transmission.
