Abstract
Abstract
Emotional intelligence, as a relatively recent concept in psychology, plays an important role in the analysis of educational literary works, as it brings to light capacities such as emotion management, self-awareness, and social skills in prominent texts. Daniel Goleman’s theory, with its emphasis on five components—self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship management, and self-motivation—provides a useful framework for examining the emotional dimensions of religious and literary texts. Nahj al-Balāgha, one of the most significant works of Islamic and literary heritage, contains numerous statements that can be analyzed through this framework to clarify the role of emotional intelligence in Imam Ali’s(peace be upon him) thought and writings. Using a descriptive-analytical method, the present study examines the components of emotional intelligence in Sermons 1–10 of Nahj al-Balāgha. The findings indicate that, in these sermons, Imam Ali(peace be upon him) demonstrates self-awareness through recognition of his own status and merit; self-management through controlling anger and pride amid political crises; social awareness through empathy with the people; relationship management through guiding society toward the truth; and self-motivation through the adoption of an encouraging approach.
